Slower traffic can lead to frustrated drivers making risky maneuvers in tight quarters in an effort to shave a little time off of their drive home. This can lead to car crashes that slow traffic down even more. To avoid becoming part of the problem during rush hour, here are some tricks to keep you out of collisions.

You know the traffic patterns in your area, and if you can leave a little earlier or later to avoid the heaviest traffic time, that can help. If not, just plan for the traffic delay and allow yourself plenty of time to get to your next destination.

It can be easy to get distracted when traffic is moving slow. Texting, talking on the phone, putting on make-up, or adjusting the radio can pull your attention away from the road just long enough for the traffic pattern to change. Rather than just watching the car in front of you, try to look ahead further and anticipate when traffic is slowing down.

In such a congested area, this can be quite dangerous. If you see someone driving wildly, give him space, and let him in front of you if necessary.
